With nearly 150,000 inhabitants, Cienfuegos is a big city by Cuban standards. It also owes great strategic importance to its location on the east side of Bahía de Cienfuegos, perhaps the most beautiful natural harbor on the island. Cienfuegos was definitively installed around 1820. The first settlers came from France, from Bordeaux, soon followed by compatriots in order to build a new and better existence in the New World. After the 1791 revolution in Haiti, during which French domination fell under the direction of the freed slave Toussaint Louverture, many white settlers fled to Cienfuegos and settled there. When Napoleon sold Louisiana to the United States in 1803, French refugees from the region followed, further strengthening French influence. As a result, it is said that there are more blonde and blue-eyed Cubans among the people of Cienfuegos than on the rest of the island together.
EL NICHO : Paradise for nature lovers.
One hour from Cienfuegos is located EL NICHO. It is a wonder of nature, dozens of waterfalls and natural ponds in a practically untouched place, hidden among the mountains. One of the settlements that belong to the Hanabanilla Basin of National Interest, in the province of Cienfuegos. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Cuba.
